We are writing to provide our most heartfelt and enthusiastic recommendation for Joey Vasquez who was the doula for both of our daughters and helped us all through two very trying periods in life. Joey was an absolute gift to our family, bringing a wonderful depth of genuine love and care for our girls, and a level of knowledge and expertise that is simply of the highest caliber. This, we discovered, after numerous failed attempts to find a doula that we could trust with our most precious little family members. We speak from experience!  

 

Joey first came to assist our family around the time that our oldest daughter had open heart surgery – at just three months old. As anyone can imagine, this was a sensitive and scary time for us, and one when we felt particularly overwhelmed as new parents. Joey brought a sense of calm and clarity to those uncertain times, and our daughter quickly transitioned into sleeping through the night which continues to be her pattern today. She also spent a significant amount of time with us after the birth of our second daughter, who was born on Christmas Day which presented its challenges, was very small, and has serious reflux issues. Not only did Joey give our daughter the attention and love she needed through the nights, but also helped us understand the stages of her development that were unfolding before our eyes and how to best manage those and care for both children with a knowing approach.  She has truly been an invaluable and trusted part of our life as parents. We should also add that Joey was with us as the COVID crisis hit and has continued to serve as our guide, first in person, and then maintaining the relationship from a distance when that was needed, and also being at the ready to return in person with measures for safety and healthy practices when needed.

Joey Taylor worked with us as a Doula for the first 3 months of our first baby's arrival for 5 nights a week. Right now, our baby boy is sleeping over ten hours a night, and it is because of the great work and caring that she provided us the first 3 months of our baby's life.  She is so innovative, creative, and caring that she seemlessly became like a member of our family for the care and love she showed our baby was like she would have for her own child. Further, she truly allowed us to rest at night because we knew that our son was in the care and custody of someone who loved the boy as much as we did. Joey began working with us 3 weeks after our daughter was born. I can say now, that I only wish I procured her sooner . Joey was able to help us get our newborn on a very consistent and manageable schedule that our daughter is still on today. Joey's vast knowledge really helped us when our daughter experienced colicky behaviors, difficulty with falling asleep and other difficult newborn challenges.

Joey was our doula and sleep coach for our son Oliver. She was a life saver for us. She not only coached us on the early stages of parenthood but provided us with so much tender loving care as we navigated what it meant to be new parents. When it was time to sleep train Oliver, Joey was incredibly gentle and at the same time strong as she guided us through what can be a very difficult process (at least for the first few hours, but just have a bottle of wine and some ice cream near by and you’ll be good).

Joey is knowledgeable, responsible, trustworthy and kind.  She took special care to watch our daughter in September 2017 and son in July 2019, while my husband and I were able to get much needed sleep.  We were able to sleep really well knowing our baby was in trustworthy hands.  Joey very thoughtfully observed our newborn babies as they slept and gave us written notes about her observations and also tracked diaper changes and feeds.  She also provided us helpful feedback regarding baby care and breastfeeding.  Due to her extensive knowledge about breastfeeding, she was able to individualize her approach based on our unique baby and situation.  Joey works as a team with other doulas, and we were also very happy with the other doula who provided services as well. 

 

Additionally, when our son was almost 7 months, she provided us with her knowledge and expertise regarding gentle sleep training via a phone consult.

I met Joey in 2017, 6 weeks after my daughter was born. I had no family support in the area, so I was exhausted, depressed, and overwhelmed.  A friend recommended finding some help, and suggested Joey. My husband and I immediately got good vibes from Joey at our interview. She was knowledgeable, she was take-charge if we wanted her to be, she was loving and caring, she was “the village” we needed.  We hired her and she helped with our daughter for well over a year. She guided us through breast feeding issues, soothing techniques, sleep training, and child development changes. Not only did she care for our daughter, but she was a guide for me and my husband as we navigated the challenges of our new role as parents. I can’t imagine surviving that first year as a mom without her by my side. She was a godsend to our family.

Fast forward to 2020, my husband and I welcomed the birth of our second child in the midst of a pandemic. Once again, Joey was there for us and help us adjust to being a family of 4 with no family support. With my second child, Joey helped me cope with the stress of adding another child into the daily rhythms of life. There were days when I would be falling apart when she arrived. She would take my hand and tell me it was going to be okay, and then help me get the day back on track, all while simultaneously taking care of my son too. She is a true Doula whose focus is not only on the baby, but supporting the mom and dad as well.
